Language learning

How long have you been studying English?

Let me see. I started primary school when I was around seven years old, and so I suppose it’s been a little over 10 years now.

In my opinion, it’s absolutely vital, because well-paid jobs often involve international communication, and so I need to be able to speak more than one language, in order to communicate worldwide. To be honest, English is by far the most useful language to know, because it’s so widely spoken these days, and is used as the international language of business and trade.

That’s an interesting question, let me see. On the one hand, I think some people have a natural talent for languages, and also enjoy learning them, so this makes it easier for them to do so. On the other hand, some people have better teachers, and better schools, so this is a vital factor in their relative success.

In general, one benefit is that communication is becoming easier across national boundaries, and this makes international understanding greater between different countries. Another might be that people don’t have to learn so many languages at school. For example, if they only have to learn one international language, that means they don’t have to learn the several different languages which, in the past, it used to be necessary to learn.
